Roger Marvin Zimmerman age 83 of Mankato died February 22, 2016 at Keystone Living Community.

Funeral service will be 10:30 am Monday at Waverly Gardens 5919 Centerville Road in North Oaks, Minnesota. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial with military honors will be at 1:30 pm Monday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Mankato Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Roger was born August 1, 1932 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Marvin and Amanda (Haugen) Zimmerman. He graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1950, attended three years at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, and entered the US Army in 1953. He married Margaret Wallace of St. Paul November 17, 1953. Roger was honorably discharged in 1955. He completed his Bachelor degree at UW-Eau Claire and furthered his education at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, earning a Masters and Doctorate degree in Education.

Roger was an elementary school teacher at the University of Minnesota lab school. He also taught Jr. High in Hudson, WI, and served as principal in Galesville, WI. In 1963 he became an instructor at Mankato State University in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, College of Education, retiring in 1997 as a full professor. He used his teaching expertise to serve his church, the Assemblies of God. He was a member of the board of regents of Trinity Bible College, Ellendale, ND, a Sunday school superintendent, and a volunteer instructor at the American Indian College in Phoenix, AZ for several years.

He and Margarett were avid bicyclists. Roger is survived by his wife, Margarett of Mankato, son Dean and wife Tami (Wingert) of East Brunswick, NJ, three grandchildren, Dylan, Dominic, and Analise, sister Jeanne Wolfe of Connecticut, and nieces and nephews. Roger is preceded in death by his parents and an infant son.
