Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary 2060 Commerce Drive North Mankato, MN 56003 (507) 388-2288 Mary Ellen Purrier, age 72, of Mankato, died Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at Pathstone Living in Mankato. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, March 29, 2015, at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive. A Memorial Service will be held later this year. Memorials are preferred to the Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church music department. Mary was born May 14, 1942, in Valley City, ND. She was a 1960 graduate of Mankato High School. She also took music and organ classes at Bethany Lutheran College and Mankato State University. Mary was united in marriage to Monroe "Monty" Purrier on March 11, 1962, in Mankato. Mary was employed with Blue Earth County Conservation Soil & Water for 17 years. She was a member of Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church, where she was active as the church organist, sang in the choir, and played the hand bells. She taught piano and accompanied soloists for weddings and funerals. Mary enjoyed knitting, reading, and her cats and dogs. Mary is survived by her husband, Monty of Mankato; four children, Amanda Lynn Johnson of Lake Crystal, Parker David (Barb) Purrier of Rochester, Kalli Bye (Jeff) Christen of St. Cloud, and Paiton Curtis Hamilton (Kara) Purrier of St. Michael; eight grandchildren, Kelsie (John) Zellar, Kayla Johnson, Evan and Bethany Purrier, Elliot and Kyle Christen, and Bryce and Kyra Purrier; two brothers, Jerry (Marge) Orness of Mankato and George (Carol) Orness of San Diego, CA. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Eleanor Forrey.
