Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary 2060 Commerce Drive North Mankato, MN 56003 507-388-2288 Delores Dee' Tacheny Delores Tacheny, age 83 of Mankato, passed away on Monday, January 5, 2015 at Oaklawn Health Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 P.M., Thursday, January 8, 2015 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mankato. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary with a prayer service will be held at 4:00 P.M. Visitation will continue Thursday from noon until the start of mass at the church. A private burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Delores Ann (Engel) Tacheny was born to William and Mary (Mahoney) Engel in Sheridan Township, Redwood County, MN, on March 14, 1931. She graduated from Redwood Falls High School, Redwood Falls, MN in 1948 and attended nurses training, graduating from St. Joseph's Nursing School in Mankato in 1949. Dee worked at St. Joseph's Hospital when St. Joseph's relocated from 5th Street to Garden Boulevard and later on worked at a clinic with Drs. Conley and Geurs. Dee was united in marriage to Leon S. Tacheny at Holy Name Catholic Church in Vesta, MN on June 10, 1954. Dee was a caring wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, crafting, and playing cards. Dee gave many hours of volunteer service to the community including SS. Peter and Paul, the Loyola System, and other community causes. Dee is survived by her husband of 60 years, Leon, and their children; Rhonda (Doug) Martinka of Mankato, Robin (Sharon) Tacheny of Andover, Terry (Colleen) Tacheny of Mankato, Douglas Tacheny of Mankato, Karla (Mike) McAfee of Forest Lake, Lisa Killian of Minneapolis; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Lorraine Carpenter; brother-in-law, Dale Tacheny; special friends, Lois and Wilson Kobel; and many other relatives. Dee was preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Mary Jo and Lori Jean; brother, Ron Engel; and step-sisters, Fran Gehrig and Ceil Fuhr. The family wishes to thank the staff at Oaklawn Health Care Center and Mayo Hospice. Memorial are preferred to SS. Peter and Paul, Loyola Catholic School (Lori Tacheny Endowment), Mayo Hospice, or the donor's choice.
