Olson ~ Tichenor Funeral Home 307 Main Street Mapleton, MN 56065 507-524-3616 A Celebration of life for William McGregor, Sr. age 75 of Mapleton will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, December 22, 2014 at Olson - Tichenor funeral home in Mapleton. Visitation will be held at the Olson - Tichenor funeral home from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 21, 2014 and continue one hour prior to the service. Burial with full military honors will be held following the service at Union Cemetery. William Charles McGregor, Sr. was born in Mankato August 28, 1939 to Carroll and Ella (Jordahl) McGregor. As a child, he and his three brothers learned to work hard on the family farm near Mapleton. He would carry on this dedication and hard work ethic throughout his life. After attending country school until the tenth grade, William entered the United States Navy, proudly serving our country until his honorable discharge in November of 1958. He would return home to start his career working as a heavy equipment operator. He married his best friend, Harriet Thompson November 13, 1960. Together, the couple had three children whom he was very proud of and worked hard to support. In his free time, William enjoyed hunting around the area, curling, fishing and playing pool. After retirement, William and Harriet enjoyed pressing their luck at Jackpot and Diamond Joe's casinos. After a brave year and a half battle with cancer, William died December 17, 2014 with his family surrounding him. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Harriet McGregor of Mapleton; children, Jacqueline McGregor of Mankato, William (Dawn) McGregor, Jr. of Elysian, Richard (Carrie Steffen) McGregor of North Mankato; nine grandchildren; five great grandchildren; brother, Jerry. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John and James.
