Lisa Christine Nicholson, age 60, of Mankato, died peacefully Monday, December 15, 2014, at Water's Edge assisted living facility. A Lutheran memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 20, 2014, at Peace Lutheran Church in North Mankato with Rev. Timothy Hartwig officiating. In lieu of flowers a memorial to Peace Lutheran Church Building Fund would be appreciated. Lisa was born in San Leandro, CA on April 28, 1954 to John and Mary Dolores (Grajera) Veraldo. She spent her childhood in Castro Valley, CA then moved south after she was married and settled in the beautiful Ojai Valley for nearly 20 years. She was called back to the Bay Area in 2002 where she lovingly cared for her elderly parents while working full-time for the school district. Lisa's journey led her to Mankato, MN to live near her daughter after learning she had stage IV brain cancer. Lisa's passion for life showed in everything she did. She loved photography, travel, painting, reading, listening to music and most importantly spending time with family and dear friends. Lisa was loved by many. Her genuine spirit and beautiful smile were captivating. She loved to laugh and made those around her laugh with her. Her personality was radiant and she embraced every day that was given to her. Lisa's love for her grandchildren Henry (7) and Owen (5) was unparalleled. They brought her tremendous joy everyday. She was an amazing role model and support for her two children Cristen (Mankato, MN) and Clayton (Ojai, CA). Her faith and dedication to her Lord was always evident. Lisa is survived by her mother, Mary Dolores; sister, Deborah; 2 children, Cristen (Ted) Manthe and Clayton Hubbell; and 2 grandchildren, Henry and Owen. Lisa was preceded in death by her father, John; and brother, Timothy. Brain cancer was the cause of her death, however, she did not lose to the disease - she won by receiving the gift of eternal life in Heaven.
