Northview ~ North Mankato Mortuary 2060 Commerce Drive North Mankato, MN 56003 (507) 388-2288 Leonard Frank Jirik, age 84, of St. Peter, formerly of North Mankato, died Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Pheasants Ridge Assisted Living in St. Peter. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 17, 2014, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Thursday at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Memorials are preferred to Mayo Clinic Health System - Mankato Hospice. Leonard was born on September 20, 1930, in Montgomery. He was the son of Frank and Celia (Simek) Jirik. Leonard was a graduate of DeLaSalle High School in Minneapolis. He was united in marriage to Charlotte Schefter in October of 1956 in Langdon, ND. Following his retirement, Leonard later worked in maintenance for Taylor Corp. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato, where he was active with the Knights of Columbus, especially their Christmas tree sales. Leonard enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, and listening to old time music. His summers were spent on East Battle Lake. Leonard is survived by his three children, Beth (Joe) Miller of North Mankato, Ann Menk of St. Peter, and Paul (Mary) Jirik of St. Peter; six grandchildren, Abbie (Troy Pierson) Miller, Sam (special friend, Becky DeYoung) Miller, Jeffrey (special friend, Courtney Ellis) Menk, Katie (fiancé, Tom Schink) Menk, Samantha Jirik, and Emma Jirik; partner of many years, Shirley Kachelmyer of Mankato; three sisters, Monnie (Ted) Jirik of New Prague, Mary (Gerald) Griffin of Rochester, and Katie Adamek of Lakeville; two sisters-in-law, Sharon Jirik of Lakeville and Mary Lou Jirik of Watertown; also many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Charlotte in 1977; two brothers, Frank and Charlie; and one sister, Marge.
