Alma was born at home on her parents farm in Decoria Township on July 24, 1914 to Fred and Augusta (Raether) Thrun. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church her entire life. She was baptized on August 30, 1914 and confirmed with her sister, Edna on June 6, 1926. Alma graduated after 8th grade in 1926 from the Iron Bridge School #131, Decoria Township. She and her sisters helped on the family farm. On October 16, 1934 Alma married Merlin Marzinske at Redeemer. They purchased a farm in Decoria Township and Alma became a busy farm wife and mother. She helped milk the cows and cared for the chickens, ducks, and geese. She raised a big garden every summer, canning, and freezing vegetables. She also grew flowers, and in her later years the steps to her home held containers full of flowers and ivy. Each spring, she would purchase day-old chicks and raised them to become laying hens or delicious fried chicken! She sold eggs locally for many years. She and other local farm wives formed the U-Need-A-Rest Card Club of which she was a member for over 50 years. She and Merlin attended barn dances and danced to Old Time Music at the Kato Ballroom. She also found time to be an officer in the Redeemer WELCA and faithfully attended the monthly Bible study. She was a fantastic cook and baker. Her oven-fried chicken and potato salad are still family favorites. She made delicious lemon meringue pie, Hersey brownies, angel food cake from scratch and cupcakes. While hanging the wash, she would often find a four-leaf clover in the grass. In March 2006, she entered Autumn Grace in Mankato.
