William Victor Benning

William "Bill" Benning, age 75, of Mankato, died on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Oaklawn Health Care Center. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary with Rev. Paul Laurer officiating. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. on Wednesday prior to the service at Northview. Bill was born on July 7, 1939 in Mankato to Raymond and Marcella (Bachmeyer) Benning. He graduated from Mankato High School. Bill served in the United States Navy from 1956-1962. On January 27, 1962, Bill was united in marriage to Shirley Anton. He worked for Continental Can Co. for 46 years. Bill was a race car driver in his earlier years. He enjoyed watching Nascar and hunting and fishing. Bill is survived by his wife, Shirley of Mankato; three sons, Bill (Kelly) of Lakeville, Tim (Kari) of Mankato, and Brian of Phoenix, AZ; four granddaughters, Kersten Benning, Sydney Benning, Kenady Benning, and Kiana Maurer; one grandson, Kahlan Benning; sister, Marjorie (George) Pool of Orange, CA; and his dog and driving companion, Lucy. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Rodney Benning.
