Lake Crystal Mortuary 648 S. Main Street Lake Crystal, MN 56055 (507) 726-6161 Marcia A. Karels, age 55, of Lake Crystal, died Thursday, October 2, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 6, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church, Lake Crystal with Rev. Randal Lubbers, officiating. Visitation will be held from 1-4 p.m., Sunday at Lake Crystal Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in Jerusalem Cemetery, rural Lake Crystal. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the First Presbyterian Church or MCHS-Mankato Hospice. Marcia was born March 17, 1959 to Ellsworth M. and Mary A. (Jones) Kelly in Mankato. She attended Judson Elementary School and graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1977. She received her LPN degree in New Ulm in 1978 and her RN degree in 2005 from South Central College. Marcia was united in marriage to Mark Karels on September 7, 1979 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Butternut. She worked for Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital for 34 years with the majority being in the OB department. Faith was an important part of Marcia's life, she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Crystal where she was a deacon and on the church cookbook committee. She was a former member of Jerusalem Presbyterian and Our Saviour's Lutheran churches. Marcia enjoyed bike riding, traveling, making lefse, flower gardening, cooking, going to Arizona in the fall and spring, her puppy Stella, knitting baby hats, and fund raising for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day. Marcia is survived by her husband of 35 years, Mark of Lake Crystal; three children, Heidi Karels and Ashley Karels both of North Mankato, Ethan (Elissa) Karels of Lake Crystal; father, Ellsworth Kelly of Lake Crystal; two sisters, Eileen (Brad) Anderson of Mankato and Sherlyn Kelly Johnson of Mesa, AZ; many nieces and nephews, including Emilee Anderson, Krista (Derek) Anderson, and Junice Norman, and three great nephews; two uncles, Arlo (MaryAnn) Kelly and Robert (Jackie) Kelly; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John (Janie) Karels, Jim Karels, Norma (Frank) Wiechert, Duane (Sharon) Karels, Dwight (Cindy) Karels, Loren (Robin) Karels, Scott (Jan) Karels, and Sandy Karels. Marcia was preceded in death by her mother, Mary in 2003; brother-in-law, Maurice "Moe" Karels; parents-in-law, Karl and Grace Karels
