Lake Crystal Mortuary 648 S. Main Street Lake Crystal, MN 56055 Irene Mack, of Lake Crystal, died on her 71st birthday on September 28, 2014, at Mayo Clinic Health System Mankato. Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 2, 2014 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Lake Crystal, Minnesota with Father Tim Biren celebrating the Mass. Visitation will take place for two hours prior to the Mass, from 9:00-11:00AM at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will take place in St. John's Cemetery at 9:00 AM, on Friday, October 3, 2014 in Searles, MN. Lake Crystal Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Irene is survived by her husband, James Mack, of Lake Crystal; sons Shannon (Sophia) Mack of Chanhassen and Shawn (Lori) Mack of Rochester, MN; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; sister Betty Johnson of Arthur, ND; and brothers Lloyd (Frances) Rud of Willimington, NC; Zane (Mary Beth) Rud of Albertville, MN; Roy (Bonnie) Rud of Buffalo, MN; John of Anthem, AZ. Irene is preceded in death by her father, Fred, and mother, Hilda, and brothers, Norman and Jerry Rud. Irene Lucille Mack was born on September 28, 1943, in Mayville, ND to Fred and Hilda (Groven) Rud. She was a 1961 graduate of Galesburg High School. She attended Mayville State University and later worked for Western States Life Insurance Company in Fargo, ND. Irene was united in marriage to James Mack on April 24, 1965, at St. John's Catholic Church in Kensal, ND. After marriage Jim and Irene lived in Mitchell, SD for one year and then moved to Yankton, SD for 5 years before settling in Lake Crystal, MN in September 1971 and raising their two sons. Irene enjoyed working as a seamstress out of her home for many years. Irene was known to sew, design, and alter wedding dresses, over coats, and men's, women's, and children's clothing. Irene enjoyed crocheting and made afghans for all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and even her grand dog. She generously donated baby blankets to area hospitals to send home with newborns. She enjoyed donating afghans, and prayer shawls to anyone who needed them and she especially enjoyed donating a large afghan she crafted each year to the annual Fall Festival at Holy Family Catholic Church where she was a member and taught religion classes for several years. Irene loved to spoil her grandchildren by making each child his or her favorite cookies when they visited. She loved to play games with the kids and, especially enjoyed a good game of spoons or Phase 10 with her family.
