Lake Crystal Mortuary 648 S. Main Street Lake Crystal, MN 56055 (507) 726-6161 Wilma Leona Spencer, age 94, of Lake Crystal died Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Country Neighbors in Lake Crystal. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church, Lake Crystal. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Burial will be in Lake Crystal Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Pleuropulmonary Blastoma Research (ppbregistry.org) for childhood cancer. Lake Crystal Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Wilma was born November 10, 1919 to Andrew and Julia (Thompson) Walen in Cottonwood County, MN. She graduated from Windom High School. After graduation, she moved to Mankato and attended the Mankato Beauty School. Wilma's first job as a beautician was in Lake Crystal, she eventually purchased the salon, and opened her own shop. She was a beauty operator for 67 years, and continued doing hair until she was 87 years old. On October 3, 1949, Wilma was united in marriage to Robert Spencer in Windom. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lake Crystal. Wilma enjoyed reading, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren. Wilma is survived by her daughter, Julie (Paul) Anderson; son, Jay (Dorene) Spencer all of Lake Crystal; six grandchildren, Betsy (Rob) Peterson of Casper, Wyoming, Jared (Trisha) Anderson of North Mankato, Caleb (Sharon) Anderson of Apple Valley, Naomi (Matt) Ruyter of North Mankato, Brandie (Tony) Murilla of LaCresent, and Rob Spencer; twelve great-grandchildren, Emma, Garrett, Jenna, and Hannah Peterson, Jackson and Reagan Anderson, Spencer and Emmett Anderson, Elena and Caroline Ruyter, Addison and Colton Murilla; sister-in-law, Maxine Walen; nieces and nephews. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert in 1991; brother, Jerome; two sisters, Mabel and Ione.
