Mass of Christian burial for Roland Jones, age 86 of Mankato will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mankato with Rev. John Kunz officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 -7 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2014 at Mankato Mortuary and continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday morning. Interment will be held in Glenwood Cemetery with full military honors. Roland died Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Mayo Clinic Health System - Mankato. Roland (Bud) Jones was born January 19, 1928 in Mankato. He was the son of Clark and Lillian Jones. He attended school in Mankato until the eighth grade and then he went to work on the family farm. Upon being drafted by the U.S. Army in 1951, Bud trained in Kansas before being deployed to Korea to serve in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953. He then returned to work on the family farm. He was united in marriage to Hazel (Dauffenbach) Herzberg June 19, 1990 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. They made their home in Bud's Childhood home in Mankato, where Bud continued to farm. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. He enjoyed playing cards, gardening, farming, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his friends and family. Bud is survived by his wife Hazel Jones; brother Richard (Joan) Jones of Arden Hills; sisters-in-law, Doris Ronne of Mankato and Elaine Jones of Waseca; nephews, Brian (Tara) Jones of Owatonna, Kent Jones of New Prague, Scott (Marlette) Jones of Waseca, Jeff Jones of St. Paul, Greg (Debbie) Jones of Shoreview; nieces, Sandy (Ed) Cain of Faribault, Nancy (Chuck) Durand of Apple Valley, Lynn (Richard) Verlinde of Slayton, Cindy Jones of St. Anthony. He is also survived by Hazel's children Karl (Rene) Herzberg of St. Peter, Anita (Bob) Donahue of Shakopee, Mark (Arlene) Herzberg of Madison Lake, Millie (Ron) Herz of Montevideo, and Bernie (Teresa) Herzberg of Mankato; Hazel's grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister and seven brothers; nephew, Peter.
