Northview - North Mankato Mortuary 2060 Commerce Drive North Mankato, MN 56003 (507) 388-2288 Vincent Joseph Thul, age 78, of North Mankato passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2014, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Mankato. Vince was born June 3, 1936, in Ghent, MN to Nicholas James and Veronica Irene (Good) Thul. He was a 1954 graduate of Loyola High School in Mankato. Vince served in the U.S. Army at Ft. Leonardwood, MO from 1954 to 1956. Following his discharge, Vince studied Electronic Technology at the Mankato Vocational Technical Institute. On December 26, 1956, he married Marlene Otto at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church. He was a manager for 35 years with Telex Communications in Blue Earth while residing in Vernon Center. Vince volunteered for the Vernon Center Fire Department, was a Little League Coach, an American Legion member, and dressed up as Santa Claus for children at Christmas. He was a former member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church where he was a Eucharistic Minister, Finance Chairperson, sang in the church choir, and taught religion. He enjoyed family fishing trips to Canada, playing cards, reading, golfing with his grandchildren, and attending their many activities. Vince is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marlene; eight children, Donna Marie (Dale) Manthei of Pine Island, Julie Ann (Michael) Kaufman of Lakeville, Mary Kay Steele of Lakeville, Michael (Karen) Thul of Portland, OR, Roselyn (Robert) Pavel of Lake Crystal, Gerald (Sue) Thul of Lake Crystal, Elizabeth (Jason) Hulburt of Albert Lea, and Barbara (Roger) Tonn of Willow Creek; fifteen grandchildren, Alison Manthei, Ryan (Lisa) Kaufman, Melanie (Andrew) Bryant, Eric and Evan Steele, Austin and Haley Thul, Jacob and Anne Pavel, Kate and Nicholas Thul, Alyssa (Michael) Linden, Ashley Hulburt, Kevin and Jared Tonn; two great-grandchildren, Owen Kaufman and Ava Bryant; six siblings, Vera (Ken) Grimes, Dean Thul, Marcy Doyle, Kay Resner, Nick (Shirley) Thul, and Margaret (Al) Kimball; sister-in-law, Pat Roesch; and many nieces and nephews. Vince was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, John Steele; five brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, September 27, 2014, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Mankato. Visitation is from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Saturday at the church. A private family burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Loyola Alumni Fund, Blessed José Sanchez Minor Seminary, or an organization of the donor's choice. Northview-North Mankato Mortuary is handling arrangements.
