Aldine F. Pettis, age 88 of Mankato, died Friday, September 19, 2014 at Sterling House in Mankato. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Patrick Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m., Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary and continue one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Aldine was born January 8, 1926 to Louis and Marguerite (Smothers) Gilman in Lake Crystal, Minnesota. She graduated from Lake Crystal High School. Aldine was united in marriage to Elmo Pettis on August 15, 1948 in rural Lake Crystal. She was a homemaker for her family. Aldine was a waitress for Kresge, Wheel Inn, Junction Inn and volunteered for the American Legion Post #11, VFW Post # 950, Morson - Ario VFW Post #9713, the Elks and Mankato Golf Club. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and lifetime member of the VFW. She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato. Aldine enjoyed collecting stamps and coins. She also was an avid reader, appreciated art and enjoyed spending time with family and her neighbors. Aldine is survived by her two sons, Norman (Diane) Pettis of Sebeka, MN, Gary Pettis of Mankato; two grandchildren Julia (Vincent) Eberhart and her children, Rachel and Desmond, Jeremy (Colby) Pettis and son Brantley; one brother, Charles Gilman of Lake Crystal; two sisters, Dorothy (Leon) Brey of Sleepy Eye, Kathleen (George) Wanke of Madison Lake; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. All were special, two standouts were Lily and Alex Preceded in death by her husband, Elmo; her parents; baby girl; infant brother; one brother, Willard; one sister, Ethel.
