Jonathan "Jon" Nelson, age 65, of North Mankato, died on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Rev. Jay Dahlvang officiating. Visitation will be on Monday from 5-7 p.m. at Northview~North Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Private family burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the ALS Association and the Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice. Jonathan was born on July 28, 1949 in Graceville, MN to Albert "Ervy" and Maxine "Macky" (Winter) Nelson. Jon was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Chokio, MN. He graduated from Chokio High School in 1967. He attended Moorhead State and Willmar Technical College. Jon was the vocalist for Faith and the Believers from 1968-1970. Jon served in the United States Army in Germany from 1970-1972. On November 12, 1983, Jon was united in marriage to Patricia Knutson. He worked as a service technician at Sears for 39 years. He enjoyed golfing, bird watching, spending summers at the family cabin and spending time with his grandsons. Jon also enjoyed watching sports and playing volleyball on the men's league. He was a member of the ALS support group and the Chokio American Legion. Jon is survived by his wife, Pat of North Mankato; two sons, Derek (Jamie) of Chanhassen and their sons, Quinn and Ian and Cameron and his special friend Madeline Brenny of Mankato; siblings, Nancy (Dean) Boldenow of Chokio, Christine (James) Deike of Madison Lake, Beth (Bob) Moore of Glenwood, and Jay (Lynn) Nelson of Morris; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and mother and father-in-law.
