Hilbert "Herbie" Callander, age 87, of Mankato, died on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato.

A visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 21 at Mankato Mortuary followed by a time of prayers and stories at 1:15 p.m. Burial will be at Kingston Apostolic Cemetery in Kingston, MN.

Hilbert was born on November 3, 1926 in Kingston Township, Meeker County to Severt and Julia (Larson) Callander. Herbie started working at Mankato Rehabilitation Center Inc. in 1969 doing janitorial and extended employment. He then retired to the EASE program at MRCI. He had lived and was part of the family of Thelma Roben and Mary Sarnowski for 40 years. Herbies health started to fail and he was then moved to Oaklawn Health Care Center in 2012.

Herbie enjoyed painting, old time music, dogs, and fishing. He loved walking around town visiting with everyone. He would stop in the pet shop and would play with the puppies. Herbie was loved by anyone that came into contact with him and especially his "girls." He gave life to everyone with the twinkle in his eye and smile on his face.

Herbie was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Ernest, Walter, David, Edward, Clifford, Clara, Violet, Olga, and Roger.
