Thomas Voss, age 78, died Friday, April 11, 2014 at Mayo Clinic Health System " Mankato.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 14, 2014 at St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Mankato with Pastor Roger Knepprath officiating. A visitation will be from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Northview " North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Woodland Hills in Mankato.
Thomas was born April 9, 1936 on the family farm near Wilmont, MN to Frank and Clara (Kellen) Voss. He attended District 96 Country School rural Avoca and Slayton Public School. He entered the Army toward the end of the Korean Conflict on October 6, 1954. He served for 13 months in Thule, Greenland. He received the Good Conduct Medal and was discharged on July 10, 1957 and remained on inactive duty until October 5, 1962.
Tom was a truck driver for different entities for 45 years, twenty -eight of which were for Mankato Aglime and Rock Company.
Tom was a confirmed member of St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a frequent usher for funerals, which was a calling he served with respect. He had been a member of the Operating Engineers Local 49 since he was 19 years old and was also a member of the American Legion.
Family was very important to Tom, who was the third oldest of 21 children. Surviving family members include his wife, Nora (Cyphers), who he became united in marriage to on October 9, 1982, and their children; Eric (Sarah) Oosawhee-Voss, Coulee Dam, WA, Aron (Larry) Watson, Japan, and Eva (Corey) Voss, Puyallup, WA. Tom has two children from his first marriage; Scott (Renata) Voss, Littleton, CO, and Joel (Betty) Voss, Mankato, MN. He is also survived by his siblings; A.J. Voss, San Diego, CA, Leona Gieselman, Fulda, MN, Carol Voss, Sioux Falls, SD, Lois Elskamp, Fulda, MN, Richard Voss, Minneapolis, MN, Gene (Betty) Fulda, MN, Clarice (Louis) Gieselman, Avoca, MN, Pat Hattendorf, Worthington, MN, Sharon Johnson, Hadley, MN, Leo (Judy) Voss, Mankato, MN, Steven (Carol) Voss, Worthington, MN, Stanely Voss, New York, NY, Danny (Caren) Voss, Avoca, MN, Mark (Mary) Voss, Fulda, MN, Anna (Dave) Malay, Mendota Hghts, MN, Robert (Sharyn) Voss, Rochester, MN, and Ed (Roxanne) Voss, Elk River, MN. Survivors include numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Tom was preceded in death by three siblings, Virginia, Patrick, and Paul in infancy.
