Joanne M. Simmonds, age 83 of Mankato, died Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at home surrounded by her family.
A prayer service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary with Rev. Tim Biren officiating, with a visitation to follow from 3 " 5 p.m. Burial will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery.
Joanne Marie was born April 8, 1930 to Earl and Ida (Zerwick) St. Peter in Mankato. She attended Ss. Peter & Paul grade school, where she met her future husband, John Simmonds. Joanne graduated from Loyola Catholic High School and the Mankato Teacher's College. She worked as a beautician at Brett's Beauty Shop for years. Joanne was united in marriage to John Simmonds on September 13, 1952 at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, together they were blessed with six children. Joanne was a Catholic Daughter, CCD Teacher, member of Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, and served as President of the YWCA and Parish Women's Catholic Counsel in Mankato. She also enjoyed volunteering for the United Way. Joanne loved to read, needlepoint, "playing cards", and learned to love animals. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt, and dear friend. Joanne was the most dynamic, loving, wonderful, and funny woman; she will be deeply missed.
Joanne is survived by her children, Ann (Michael) Wright, Marie (Rick Otto) Simmonds, Therese Simmonds, Christine (Brad Mutsch) Simmonds, Joseph (LaDonna Funderburke) Simmonds, and Susan Simmonds; grandchildren, Anthony Landkamer, Elly (Nick) Wise, Cassie (Bill) Bowser, Jane (Justin Ek), Molly Otto, Wesley Otto, Maggie (Chris Gambill) Simmonds, and Joseph Simmonds Jr.; great-grandchildren, Eithen and Francis; brother, John St. Peter; brother-in-law, Charles Moore; sister-in-laws, Mary Kay St. Peter and Jean Simmonds; and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Simmonds in 2007; sister, Elaine Moore; brother, Robert St. Peter; and parents, Earl & Ida St. Peter.
Joanne's family would like to thank the Mankato Clinic and MCHS-Mankato Hospice team for their care and kindness.
