Lydia A. Fields, age 98, of Mankato, died on Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Laurel's Peak.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 12 at 1:30 p.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church with Rev. Donohue Sarff officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, April 11 from 4-7 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association.
Lydia was born on August 6, 1915 in Smiths Mill to William and Alvina (Quiram) Krueger. Lydia met William Fields on the day he returned home from serving in the U.S. Army. They were married on December 10, 1949. Lydia worked in the custodial department at Mankato State University for several years. Lydia traveled many places, including, Alaska, China, and Japan. She loved helping others and having get togethers with family and friends. Lydia enjoyed going to estate auctions, gardening, baking bread and making potato salad, and she did superb restoration of antiques.
Lydia is survived by her children, Robert Fields of Anchorage, AK, Jean Fields-Uchida of Mankato, and Bruce Fields of Janesville. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, William; and three brothers and five sisters.
