Mary (Hoekstra) Lamb, age 92, of Mankato, died Thursday, October 10, 2013 at her home.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 14, 2013 at Hosanna Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael Omtvedt officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. at church, and continue until the time of the service. Private burial will be in Roseland Cemetery.
Mary was born on December 13, 1920 to Fobbe and Sarah (Portvliet) Hoekstra in Willmar, MN. She was the youngest of 11 children. Mary attended country school until the 4th grade, then attended Roseland School through the 8th grade and graduated from Raymond and Danube High School. After high school, she went to Mankato Commercial College and Drew's Business College in St. Cloud. Mary was united in marriage to William L. Lamb on October 24, 1943. Though they later divorced, together they were blessed with 4 children. She worked at Montgomery Ward, Newport Sulpher Co., Southern Pecan Shelling Co., Credit Union and ultimately Katolight Corp in Mankato where she worked for 28 years, retiring in 1985.
Mary's years of study with BFS granted her spiritual growth that lead to many years of leading and studying with other groups, meeting, and enjoying friendships with many faithful friends. She enjoyed walking, quilting, embroidery, traveling, going out to lunch with friends and day trips to points of interest near and far.
Mary is survived by her children, Kay (Walt) Beinke, Wayne (Judy) Lamb, Carol (Joe) Chmielewski, and Deb (Jerry) Miller; grandchildren, Paul Beinke, Brett (Jodi) Beinke, Sarah (Pete) Seglum, Jenny (Mike) Hoffman, Maggie Miller, Molly (Jeremy) David, Kelly (Jeff) Miller, Mary Beth Chmielewski, Tammy (Tom) Spear, Tom Lamb, Tim Lamb, Jeff Brunstad, Julie Brunstad, Laura (Lyle) Steman, and Jenna (James) Brown; 10 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-child.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; all of her siblings; and her grandson, Joe M. Chmielewski.
