He attended All Saints Catholic School, Wilson Campus School, and Mankato State College. After attaining his C.P.A., Chuck went on to receive his J.D. from the William Mitchell College of Law.
Chuck practiced law for over thirty years in Mankato and was a partner in the law firm of Maschka, Riedy & Ries, where he focused his practice on bankruptcy, taxation, and commercial law issues. Chuck was a past Chair of the Minnesota State Bar Association Bankruptcy Section and served as a District of Minnesota Panel Trustee. Chuck was a proud family man and a supportive and loving husband and father. During his children's athletic careers, he spent a great deal of time at the ball field, gym, and ice rink quietly cheering them on as their greatest fan. He also loved the community and people of Madison Lake and his church.

Chuck was generous in sharing his many gifts and lived a life of service to others. From 1971 to 1976, he served in the United States Army Reserves. He was a Madison Lake City Councilman for over 10 years, and was an active member of the American Legion Post 269 in Madison Lake. He coached many little league and football teams and was past President of the Mankato Area Girls Fastpitch Association. Chuck served All Saints in many ways, as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister and serving on the Finance Council and the Endowment Fund Board.
