Our beloved Sister M. Nora Eggert, 92, died at 3:40 p.m., Thursday, August 16, 2012, in Notre Dame Health Care Center, Our Lady of Good Counsel Campus, Mankato, Minnesota. In the past few weeks, she had become increasingly weaker, and her condition declined greatly the day before she died. Several sisters had kept vigil with her, and two of her nieces, Mary Finsted and Ann Segner, were also present in her final hours.

The funeral Mass for Sister Nora, with Father Gene Stenzel as presider, will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 21, in Good Counsel Chapel, followed by burial in Good Counsel Cemetery. The vigil service will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, August 20. We extend our sympathy to her nieces and nephews and their families, her former students and colleagues, and her sisters in community, the School Sisters of Notre Dame. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Catherine (Kacmarek) Eggert, her sisters, Sister Roseanne Eggert, SSND, Bernice Eggert, Helen Prohott, Mary Eggert, Elizabeth Matousek and Emily Scepurek, and her brothers, Aloysius, Joseph, Leo, Adalbert and Peter.

Sister Nora, the second youngest of twelve children (three of whom died very young) was born on the family farm near Silver Lake, Minnesota, on April 15, 1920. Two days later she was baptized Margaret at St. Adalbert Church in Silver Lake. Her parents were both Polish immigrants to this central Minnesota village.
