Colleen Ruth Breyfogle, age 81, of North Mankato and formerly of Sioux City, Iowa, died in the arms of family on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Oak Terrace Assisted Living in North Mankato, following a brief illness.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Belgrade Avenue United Methodist Church, North Mankato with Rev. Dan Horn, officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato and will continue one hour before service at church on Thursday. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park, Mankato. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
Colleen was born March 1, 1932 to Harry and Magdalene (Kreykes) Bomgaars in Sheldon, Iowa. She graduated from Central High School, Sioux City, IA in 1949. Colleen was united in marriage to Richard A. Breyfogle on September 14, 1957 at the First Christian Church in Sioux City. Colleen was employed by Prudential Life Insurance Company in Sioux City as an office manager from 1949- 1982, taking only seven years off to raise her family. She then worked in retail sales at, Fishgalls, Williges, and Jean's Women's Apparel, before retiring in 2002. Colleen modeled women's fashions promoting boutique stores in Sioux City during the 1970's. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sioux City for over 50 years. As a devoted servant of the church, she was a member of UMW, and Unity Circle, offered assistance with communion preparation, church office, and philanthropic activities. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi " Alpha Mu Chapter and PEO " MK Chapter. Colleen enjoyed golfing, traveling, spending time with friends, helping others, and especially her family.
Colleen is survived by her two children, Sue (Tim) Barta of Mankato, Tom Breyfogle (Jennifer Fleming) of Topeka, KS; granddaughter, Sarah Jane Barta of Mankato; three siblings, Charlotte Kennedy of Ft. Collins, CO, Marlene (Pete) Young of Loveland, CO, David (Willa) Bomgaars of Summit, NJ; special nieces, nephews, and friends.
Colleen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rich on October 17, 2007; and brother-in-law, Fred Kennedy in 2008.
