Harold Irvin Baker, age 95, of North Mankato, died Thursday, March 14, 2013, at Oak Terrace Assisted Living.
Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at Bethel Baptist Church in Mankato, with Rev. David Banfield officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday at Mankato Mortuary and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Memorials are preferred to The Gideons or Bethel Baptist Church.
Harold was born on March 19, 1917, in Belle Plaine, to Harold B. and Leona M. (Buzick) Baker. He grew up on a farm near Mankato, the oldest of nine siblings. He married Dorothy Mae Peterson in 1947. Harold was an Army veteran of WWII, Normandy Beach. He worked for the Mankato Post Office for many years and "retired" to be a full-time farmer in 1972. In 1977, he moved to Gaylord, and continued to be active with The Gideons and Bethel Baptist Church in Mankato. Harold loved his family, card games, Rummikub, traveling, driving, and being a greeter at church.
Harold is survived by his children, Darla Baker of St. Paul, Bix (Becky) Baker of Fairfax, Dave Baker of St. Paul, Tim Baker of Glasgow, KY, Gloria (Brian) Berg of Maple Grove, and Janice (Jerry) Lepinski of Jackson; 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; younger siblings, Shirley (Burdette) Ensrud, Glen (LaDonna) Baker, and Wayne (Diane) Baker; many nieces and nephews and countless friends.
Harold was preceded in death by his loving wife of almost 50 years, Dorothy; infant daughter, Helen Ann; daughter-in-law, Pamela; parents; two sisters and three brothers.
