Grace A Hammond

Grace Arlene Hammond, age 83, a resident of Oak Hills Living Center, New Ulm and formerly of rural Lake Crystal, died Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at New Ulm Medical Center.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 3, 2007 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Butternut with Rev. Gene Alms officiating. Burial will be in Jerusalem Cemetery, rural Lake Crystal. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Lake Crystal Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church or donor's choice.

Grace was born August 17, 1924 to Albert and Gladys (Christenson) Sherry in Soldiers Grove, WI. She graduated from Reedstown High School, Reedstown, WI in 1942. Grace served her country with the Army WAC during World War II. She graduated from Lutheran Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing, Chicago, IL in 1952. Grace was united in marriage to Roger L. Hammond on April 18, 1953 in Soldiers Grove, WI. She was employed with the Madelia Community Hospital as a registered nurse retiring in 1982. Grace was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church where she had been a Sunday school teacher and member of WELCA. She enjoyed needlework and handiwork, knitting afghans, watching TV, and word search puzzles.

Grace is survived by her three children, R. Lee Hammond of Hanska, Ingrid Oswald of Madelia, Shoshonna (Rodney) Oswald of rural Lake Crystal; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Arnie (Mabel) Sherry of Viroqua, WI, Earl Sherry of Madison, WI, Tom Sherry of Reedstown, WI; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents; son, Loel in 1972; husband, Roger in 1973; brother, Albert Sherry; sister, Ingrid Motzer.
