Gerald E. Hansen, age 87, returned "home" on Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Keystone Living Community in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Pax Christi Catholic Community, 12100 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie, MN. Burial will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, memorials by be given to Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospice, P.O. Box 8673, Mankato, MN 56001 or donor's choice. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Gerald was born April 9, 1923 to Martin and Johanna (Jensen) Hansen in Melrose. He attended St. Cloud State University and graduated from St. John's University, Collegeville, MN. During World War II he served as a pharmacist's mate at Alea Heights Hospital, Hawaii and the Midway Island. After his military service, Gerald was employed for 37 years at Honeywell as a production engineer. After retiring from Honeywell, Gerald and Renee spent summers at their lake home in Nisswa and winters at their home in Naples, Florida. They moved to Mankato in 2006 to be closer to family for health reasons.
Gerald is survived by wife, Renee; three daughters, Constance (Oliver) Atkinson, Paula (Michael) Orcutt, and Jill (David) Michalski; grandchildren, Angela (Brandon) Roe, Carrie (Adam) Harrington, Corey Hansen, Jeffrey (Beth) Atkinson, Paul Orcutt, Nicolas (Lacy) Atkinson, Kelly (Chris) Trump, Lindsey (Steve) Carlson, Sara Michalski; great-grandchildren, Brianna and Alexis Roe, Madison Trump, Annika Atkinson.
Gerald was preceded in death by son, Mark.
