Lee Ray Terrell, age 89, of Eagle Lake, died Tuesday, February 25, 2014, surrounded by his family at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Mankato.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 28, 2014, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Doug Libby officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in Eagle Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 " 8 p.m., Thursday at Northview - North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato and will continue one hour before the service at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to the American Heart Association or the donor's choice.
Lee was born March 26, 1924 to Daniel and Evelyn (Ewing) Terrell in Janesville, Minnesota. He grew up on a farm Northeast of Madison Lake. Lee served his country during WWII in the United States Marine Corp., enlisting in December of 1943. Lee spent 36 days on the island of Iwo Jima where he received two Purple Hearts. Lee was also in one of the initial groups of Marines that occupied Japan. In April of 1946, Lee was honorably discharged.
Lee worked for Doring Brothers, selling and installing milking machines. Lee then worked for Skelly Oil Company where he was the area Manager for 35 years, until retiring in 1983. Lee also farmed in the Eagle Lake Area since 1950.
Lee married Lorraine Anderegg on October 25, 1946. They raised four sons on a farm in Eagle Lake. Lorraine passed away in February of 1985. Lee married Sandy Jones on August 22, 1986.
He was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church, serving on various boards. Lee was very involved with the American Legion where he was past Commander of Eagle Lake Post 617, Commander of the 2nd District, and Vice Commander of the Department of Minnesota. Lee enjoyed visiting VA nursing homes around the state. Lee was very proud of his family and cherished the time spent with them.
Lee is survived by his wife, Sandy of Eagle Lake; three sons, Jerry (Jan) Terrell and Dennis (Colleen) Terrell all of Eagle Lake, Craig Terrell of Lake Crystal; daughter-in-law, Linda Terrell of North Mankato; grandchildren, Erin, Chad, Trina, Brandon, Kelly, Jenna, Daniel, Meghan, Ashley, and Hannah; great-grandchildren, Collin, Danika, Hailee, Courtney, Alex, Stella, Adisyn, and Brynleigh; sister, Donna Dvorac"k of Walker; three sisters-in-law, Pat Sandmeyer, Frankie (Ron) Mason, and Sharon Daniels; six brothers-in-law, John (Ruth) Jones, William (Yemi) Jones, Stanley Jones, Tom Jones, Andrew Ross, and Steven (Tara) Ross all from Virginia; nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lorraine; son, Larry; granddaughter, Lauralee; siblings, Ralph (Margaret) Terrell, Ruth Waber, and Daniel Terrell; brothers-in-law, Willard Anderegg, Grady Jones, Edward Jones, and Pete Jones; mother-in-law and father-in-law.
