Henry Skapski, age 89, of North Mankato, died Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Hillcrest Health Care Center, Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, North Mankato, with Rev. Peter Nosbush officiating. Visitation will be held one hour before service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mankato. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Henry was born May 12, 1924 to Jozef and Bronislawa (Dzwik) Skapski in Tuczno, Poland. He served in the Polish Army during World War II. Henry was united in marriage to Stefania Zatylna on March 29, 1948 in Poland. Together they immigrated to Mankato in 1966. Henry was employed by Bill Kindler Volkswagen for 18 years. He was a past member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and a present member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He built his home in Poland and enjoyed woodworking.
Henry is survived by two daughters, Brigitte (Fil) Lourenco of Fairhaven, Massachusetts, Emily Schutte (special friend, Ben Benson) of North Mankato; 5 grandchildren, Christina (David) Ross of Mankato, Rachel Taylor of Largo, FL, Irene (Brad) Lieferman of Mankato, Sandi (Jared) Hutchinson of Ellsinore, MO, David (Karrie) Schutte of North Mankato; 7 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Zaden, Sakari, Kaiya, Lily, Mykencie, and Chase; sister-in-law, Anna Turkiewicz of Poland; and extended family.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Stefania on March 10, 2005; son-in-law, Dick Schutte on April 3, 2008; and nine siblings.
