Lois Jean Swanson, age 84, of Mankato, died on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Laurel's Edge Assisted Living.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Rev. Jay Dahlvang officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are preferred to Bethlehem Lutheran Church and Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice.

Lois was born June 25, 1929 in Minneapolis to Roland and Johannah (Bill) Olson. She graduated from Mankato High School in 1947. Lois was united in marriage to Ken Swanson in 1949 and they were later divorced. Lois worked for New York Life Insurance for 32 years. She enjoyed spending time at her cabin on Duck Lake. She loved watching family sporting events and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Lois also enjoyed watching Minnesota sports teams, Twins and Vikings. Lois traveled many places, including Europe and Hawaii. She always took family vacations at Christmas. Lois loved dogs, watching animals, and playing bridge.

Lois is survived by two sons, Ron (Linda) Swanson of Mankato and Ross (Susanne) Swanson of Prior Lake; grandchildren, Amy (Jason) Hoehn, Angie (Scott) DeGraff, Chris Swanson, Jessica Swanson, and Ryan Swanson; great-grandchildren, Jamie, Emma, Ben, Braleigh, and Lucas; brother-in-law, Gordy Struss; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Janyce Struss.
