Emma Mary Ann Mack age 96 of rural Amboy, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at Immanuel - St. Josephs Hospital in Mankato.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Vernon Center with Rev. Thomas Lock officiating. Burial in Vernon Center Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 " 7 p.m., Friday at Mankato Mortuary and continue one hour before services at the church on Saturday.

Emma Mary Ann Mack was born April 12, 1907 to Thomas and Emma (Gerberding) Bowles Sr. in Vernon Center. She was united in marriage to Elmer Herrlich on December 20, 1926. They had two children, Ivan and Betty Ann. Elmer died from injuries sustained in an auto accident on July 26, 1932. Following his death, Emma operated a boarding home for teachers of the Vernon Center School and other unmarried ladies.

On June 30, 1941, she married Mark Mack of Amboy and moved to the Mack farm. Mark passed away May 4, 1978. Emma continued to operate the farm with their son, John, for over 20 years. She enjoyed working in her garden and watching birds and deer that came to feed outside her window. She taught Sunday School for over 25 years at her church, St. Peters Lutheran in Vernon Center. She was also treasurer of the Vernon Center Cemetery for 30 years. On August 1, 2001 Emma moved to Country Neighbors in Lake Crystal and on November 1, 2001 she moved to Sibley Manor Assisted Living in Mankato where she remained until the time of her death.

Emma is survived by her daughter, Betty Putrah and husband, Glenn of Trenton, MO, two sons, Ivan Herrlich and wife, Lois of Kenyon, MN, John Mack and wife, Gloria of Amboy; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew.

Preceded in death by two husbands, one brother, two half sisters, one half brother, one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
