Helen Hughes

Helen L. Hughes, 82, of Lake Crystal, died Thursday, July 03, 2003, at Mankato Lutheran Home. Memorial services 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 5, 2003, at Zion Lutheran Church in Lake Crystal, with Rev. Nancy Dreier officiating. Private family interment in Jerusalem Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church or the donors choice. Lake Crystal Mortuary is handling arrangements. Helen was born on August 8, 1920, in Madelia to Henry and Manda (Larson) Lunde. She was a graduate of Lake Crystal High School, and attended Mankato Teachers College for over three years. Helen was united in marriage to William S. Bill Hughes on June 27, 1942, in Lake Crystal. She was a homemaker for her family. Helen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and also the Eastern Star " Lake Crystal Chapter. Her pastimes included collecting and selling antiques, crafts, crocheting and sewing, gardening, and reading. Helen and Bill also enjoyed traveling, having spent seven winters in Hawaii. Helen is survived by her husband, Bill of Lake Crystal; two daughters, Gretchen Hughes of Savage, and Bronwyn Hughes of Mankato; one brother, Rick Lunde of Lake Crystal; two sisters-in-law, Constance Odanovich of Shoreview, and Ruth Lunde of Fargo; also several nephews, nieces, and cousins. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Orville and Norman.
