A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Mankato with Rev. Roger Knepprath officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in St. Clair. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Lola was born on December 7, 1924, in Brookings, SD to Henry and Anna (Friday) Borgwardt. The family moved to Minnesota in 1933. Lola was united in marriage to Eldo Ewert on January 6, 1943, while home on furlough from serving in the Army in England during WWII. After several years of farming near Mapleton and Waterville, they moved to Belle Avenue in Mankato in 1973, where Lola resided until moving to Grand Arbor of Alexandria in April of 2012.
In her earlier years, Lola loved to watch Eldo race his #17 Chevy coupe, play cards, league bowling, crochet and knit, go fishing on East Battle Lake, play with her grandchildren, as well as entertain family and friends with her great cooking and baking skills. Her family was very important to her, and one of her biggest accomplishments was assembling a family history book of stories and photographs dating back to the early 1800s. In her later years, Lola enjoyed watching the Twins, Timberwolves, and Vikings on TV.
Lola is survived by her daughter, Cheryle (Larry) Doss of Holmes City, MN; five grandchildren, Jessica, Cynthia, Jeffrey, Kelly, and Jennifer; six great-grandchildren, Bailey, Hunter, Sydney, Erin, Sarah, and Noah; one sister, Velma Bunde of North Mankato; one sister-in-law, Betty Borgwardt of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1991; her sister Myrtle Cray; and two brothers, Carl (Bob) Borgwardt and Verlyn (Dale) Borgwardt.
