Dennis was born on April 22, 1932, to John and Gladys (Wahlstrom) Kelly in Minneota. They moved to Mankato when Dennis was young. He graduated from Mankato High School and the Mankato Vocational-Technical Institute. He married Margaret Ann Lutterman in Mankato on April 16, 1955.
Dennis was a Mankato Firefighter and retired as the Fire Chief in 1986. He then spent 15 years as a printer at Carlson Craft of Mankato. He was an extreme handyman and could fix anything. He built several of the family homes throughout the years. For fun he enjoyed golf, card games, and spending time with his many friends and family. He will be remembered for his quick wit and keen sense of humor. He was an active parishioner for over 60 years at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He was also an Army Veteran of the Korean War era and a long-time member of the American Legion and the Moose Lodge.
He was a terrific husband and father. On a Firefighter's salary he sent all of his children through the Mankato Catholic school system. Dennis and Margaret rarely missed any event, sporting or otherwise, involving their children. He will be missed by many.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Margaret and their children, Kirk and Cindy Kelly (Kevin, Jake and Tyler), Pat and Nancy Kelly (James and Michael), Pam Kelly and Ignatius OConnor, Dan and Gail Kelly (Nate, Amanda and Katie), Brad and Lisa Peters (Sam), and Jim and Michelle Kelly (Josie); eight great-grandchildren; sister, Pat Leahy; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gene, Doug, and Dean; and his sister, Gloria.
