Donald L. "Sparky" Sweet, age 87, died Saturday May 3, 2014 surrounded by his family at Mayo Clinic Health Systems.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 9, 2014 at Centenary United Methodist Church in Mankato. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 5 " 7 p.m., Thursday at Mankato Mortuary and continue one hour before the service at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the donor's choice.

Don was born March 26, 1927 in Mankato to Edward and Marie (Clark) Sweet. He graduated from Mankato High School and Mankato Vo-Tech. He served his country in the US Navy. Don was united in marriage to Phyllis Dressel on September 29, 1949 in Le Sueur. They made their home in Mankato where Don worked at Mankato Electric and Eagle Electric as an electrician. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.

Don enjoyed flower gardening, hunting, fishing, and an avid slot player.

Don is survived by his daughter, Karen (Jim) Grzeskowiak of Little Falls; two sons, Mike (Tese) Sweet, Lynn (Pat Oftedahl) Sweet all of Mankato; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephew.

Preceded in death by his parents, wife Phyllis, and two sisters.
