Joyce Scott, age 82, formerly of Garden City, MN, died of Parkinson's disease on Friday, May 2nd, 2014.

A celebration of her life will be held at Garden City Christian Church on Wednesday, May 7 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Tony Thurston and Rev. Deb Bandel co-officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary. Burial will be in the Garden City Cemetery.

Joyce was born on December 26, 1931, to Kermit and Blanche (Schmitt) Michels. She enjoyed growing up on a farm in Belgrade Township, North Mankato and attended a one room schoolhouse in District #8. She graduated from Mankato High School in 1949 and then worked at Marigold Dairies. Joyce married Gary Scott on December 12, 1954 and they lived near Garden City for 53 years. She was a stay-at-home mother to five children. Later she was the school cook at the Vernon Center Elementary School until she retired in 1995. Joyce and Gary Scott were active members of the Garden City Christian Church for over 60 years. She was happiest when surrounded by family and was a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed being in nature while camping, hiking, riding bicycle, cross country skiing, and being a passenger on her husband's motorcycle. Listening to music, attending plays, reading and her pets also brought her pleasure.

Joyce is survived by her husband Gary Scott and their five children, Dorance Scott of Anchorage, Alaska, Mona Scott of Minneapolis, Nancy (Bruce) Mielke of Forest City, IA, Sharon (Hector) Scott-Gonzalez of Vista, California, and Troy (Heather) Scott of Milan, MN; sister, Joan Cousins of North Mankato; brother, Dennis Michels of North Mankato eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kayle Michels; and sister, Sandra Fitterer.
