A memorial service for Jack L. Thompson, age 77 of North Mankato will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at North Mankato Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at North Mankato Mortuary. Lunch will be served following the service.
Jack was born in Dunnell, MN on August 4, 1936 to Merris and Opal (Reed). He was the youngest of eight children. He graduated from Forest Lake High School in 1954 and went to work for Great Lakes Pipeline. In 1958, Jack joined the United States Army where he was an active paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. After his honorable discharge, Jack made his career as an HVAC installer working in Minnesota, South Dakota and Colorado. Jack was married to Kathy "Cookie" (Swanson) on November 30, 1962. Jack enjoyed his retirement, where you could often find him putzing around his house. He liked muscle and classic cars, building projects out of wood and spending time outside gardening. Jack was proud of his three grandchildren, Cheyanna, Hunter and Tanner.
Jack passed away April 25, 2014 at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato.
Jack will be missed by his family, including his wife of 51 years, Kathleen of North Mankato; children, Wade (Suzanne) Thompson of Frederick, CO, Dana (Eric Schacht)Thompson-Smith of Sparks, NV, Tracy (Dan) Blommer of St. Cloud; 3 grandchildren; sisters, Ron Peacock of Anchorage, AK, Verna Jensen of Kirksville, MO; step-sister, Jeanne Swanson of Ham Lake; Brothers, Wayne Thompson and friend, Steve Oren of St. Paul, Harland (Ramona) Prior Lake; Sisters-in-law, Dorothy Thompson of Branson, MO and Merriam Thompson of New Brighton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Wendy Lynn; brothers, Dean and Dale; sister, Jean Anderson; son-in-law, Carson Smith; step-mother, Eva Thompson.
