Sue E. Jones, age 63, of Chandler and formerly of Lake Crystal, died unexpectedly Friday, April 25, 2014, at her parent's home in rural Lake Crystal.
A Celebration of Sue's Life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at the Cambria Presbyterian Church with Rev. Penny Johnson, officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Monday at Lake Crystal Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in Jerusalem Cemetery, rural Lake Crystal.
Sue was born December 11, 1950 to Harold and E. Ren"e (Hendricks) Jones in Mankato. Sue graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1969 and then from Mankato State College in 1973 with a teaching degree in English. Sue began her teaching career as an English and Speech Teacher in Chandler, Minnesota in 1974. After a tornado destroyed the Chandler School in 1992, she then taught at Murray County Central School District in Slayton, becoming their Media Specialist until retiring in 2012. Sue continued to be a substitute teacher and was involved in statistics for girls' sports until the present time. Sue had a deep love of teaching and for her students. Sue enjoyed needle point, reading, watching movies, Greek mythology, an avid Minnesota sports fan, and was a huge Elvis Presley fan. Most of all, her family and especially her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews, were her joy in life.
Sue is survived by her mother, Ren"e of rural Lake Crystal; three sisters, Nancy (Keith) Frette of Sioux City, IA, Kathy (special friend, Tom Betcher) Erickson of Prior Lake, and Becky (Calvin) Tate of Lake Crystal; 13 nieces and nephews; 13 great-nieces and nephews and one expected in October; aunts and uncle, Caroline Jones of Mankato, Barb Hendricks of Big Cyprus, Tennessee, Tom and Mary Hendricks of North Mankato; many cousins and extended family.
Sue was preceded in death by her father, Harold on April 17, 2014; an infant brother; sister, Mary Jean Bottenfield; brother-in-law, Paul Erickson; twin nieces, Wendy Sue and Wanda Jean Erickson; and many extended family.
