Dorothy M. (Sanders) Looft, age 90 of Mankato died April 21, 2014 with her family by her side at Hillcrest Care Center. A private Celebration of Dorothy's Life will be held at Mankato Mortuary.
Dorothy M. Sanders was born July 7, 1923 on the family farm in Swea City Iowa in the midst of the Great Depression to William and Lydia (Grandgeorge) Sanders. It was at the First Baptist Church in Swea City, Iowa that Dorothy met her husband-to-be Philip. Faith became the foundation of their marriage and family. Together, the couple moved to Fairmont where they began their family while Philip was a share farmer. Eventually, the couple moved to Blue Earth and other towns in Southern Minnesota before settling in Mankato in 1966. Dorothy shared her compassion for others while working as a CNA at the Mankato Hospital for over thirty years. She spent twenty five years delivering the Mankato Free Press to towns in Southern Minnesota and also spent many nights working as a night cook at the Rainbow Caf". She will tell you, her favorite and most important job of all was being a mother. Dorothy spent many hours out in the garden, baking, cooking, working on games and puzzles, and crocheting. Dorothy was a lady of great faith and was actively involved in Grace Baptist Church. She was always on the go; helping her family, community and church. She created many memories camping and fishing for forty years.
Dorothy will be missed by her family, including her husband of 70 years, Philip of Mankato; children, Cathrine Weber of Granada, Tom (Juanita) of Vernon Center, Mary Jo (Brad) Gohla of Mankato, Lorraine (Joe) Cozzie of Aurora, CO, Karen (Roger) Lindenfelser of Big Lake, Philip "Frank" (Nancy) of Mankato, Steven (special friend, Deb) of Marion, SD and Peggy Wilmes of North Mankato; 22 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; sister, Helen (Don) Geerdes of Swea City, IA; brother, Roger (Sue) Sanders of Fairmont; sister-in-law, Carol Sanders of Armstrong, IA.
She was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, son, Chucky; brothers, Marvin, Raymond, and Bob; sister, Ruth.
