Donna Jean Sharp
Donna Jean Sharp passed away peacefully at Ecumen Pathstone Living in Mankato on Monday, September 15, 2014. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Church of Mapleton. A visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at The Belle of Sterling Cemetery following the service.
Donna Jean was born in Mankato on December 30, 1922, to Clifford J. and Clara M. (Guenther) Spear. She graduated from New Ulm High School and Mankato Teachers' College. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Mankato State College. She taught at rural schools and later at Delavan Elementary. On August 20, 1944, she was united in marriage to Everett B. Sharp. They made their home on the farm in Sterling Township where she lived until her death. To this union were born four children, Carolyn (Jay) Becker, Josephine (Paul) Muske, Jarrett Sharp, and Genette (Stuart) Carleton.
Donna Jean was energetic, loving and determined. She enjoyed breakfast at the round table at the Cottage Caf", Amboy Book Club, playing golf, curling, Bridge, traveling, sewing, hardanger, gardening and mowing her lawn.
She was an active member of the United Church of Mapleton and of the Anthony Wayne Chapter of the DAR. She never missed any special events of her 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Donna Jean served on many boards, including Immanuel-St. Joseph Hospital, Mankato Citizens Telephone Company and President of Gopher State Women's Curling Association.
Donna Jean is survived by her children, sister, Corneil (Delmar) Espeseth), and brother, Henry (Judy) Spear. She was preceded in death by her husband, and siblings, Deloris Evans, William Spear and Kenneth Spear.
The family prefers memorials to the United Church of Mapleton Pew Cushion Fund, Belle of Sterling Cemetery, or charity of donor's choice.
