Florence Margaret Kawell, age 93, of Mankato died peacefully on Sunday, September 14, 2014, at Pathstone Living.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 17, 2014, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mankato. Interment will be in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Mankato Mortuary handled the arrangements.

Florence was born the only child of August and Augusta Ruge of North Mankato on June 4, 1921. As a child she often travelled with her father who was a supervisor for a railroad and visited Boston, Chicago and New Orleans. Florence worked as a secretary at Hubbard Milling of Mankato after studies at Bethany Lutheran College. In 1949 she married Allen Kawell of Mankato. Allen was a business man and together they raised five children: Mark (Barb Levie) of Ely, MN, Ann (Al) Luke of Raleigh, NC, John of Eagle Lake, Laurie (Larry) Gilbertson of River Falls, WI and Karen (Scott) Cole of Hudson, WI.

Florence and Allen moved to Burnsville, MN in 1965 and for many years Florence worked for the J.C. Penney Co. at the Southdale Mall. Upon retirement in 1980 they built a home on the Le Sueur River south of Mankato where they lived until moving to Mankato in 2000. Florence moved into the Keystone Residence of Mankato upon the death of Allen in 2008 and in 2012 she took up residence at Pathstone Living near Sibley Park in Mankato within view of where she had been born.

Florence is survived by her five children, thirteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Florence's family would like to thank the staff at Pathstone Living for their diligent service and many kindnesses during her stay.
