Mark L. Honetschlager, age 89, of Mankato, died on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 17 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. John Kunz officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Mark Leonard was born on September 6, 1925 in Mankato to Alois and Angeline (Collins) Honetschlager. Mark graduated from Mankato High School in 1942 and then entered the U.S. Navy. He served in WWII and Korea as a machinist mate on destroyers. Using the GI bill, he started his own business, Mark's Kustom Upholstery and was self-employed until his retirement. On November 5, 1947, Mark was united in marriage to Mary Alleven. Mark enjoyed hunting and fishing for walleyes.
Mark is survived by his son, Leo (Eileen) Honetschlager of Lakeville; grandchildren, Victoria, Mark, and John; and sisters, Ruby Gessner of Nicollet and Joan Stai of Mankato. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; three brothers, Norman, Lorin, and Leroy; and sister, Shirley Rossel.
