Dorothy Marie Nickels, age 89, of Mankato, died Monday, September 1, 2014, at Pathstone Living in Mankato.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 5, 2014, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Rev. Paul Lauer officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park in Mankato. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at church. Memorials may be given to Pathstone Living. Mankato Mortuary handled the arrangements.
Dorothy was born January 27, 1925, in Mankato to Carl and Inga (Aagard) Schulz. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School and Mankato High School. Dorothy was united in marriage to Elmer "Hap" Nickels on May 31, 1943 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato. She was employed in the housekeeping department of Immanuel " St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato. Dorothy was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing cards, watching the Twins and Vikings, playing bingo, reading, crossword puzzles, embroidery, crocheting, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her nine children, Janet Carrier of California, Gary (Nancy) Nickels of Mankato, DeWayne (Karen) Nickels of North Mankato, Robert (Bev) Nickels of North Mankato, Penny (Jim) Steever of Douglas, WY, Dean (Ann) Nickels of Mankato, Bev Nickels of Mankato, Laurie (Dennis) Daufenbach of Mankato, and Jim (Tracy) Nickels of Lake Crystal; 27 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Arlen (Cathy) Schulz of Bella Vista, AR; sister, Donna Landsteiner of Waseca; also many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer in 2007; two daughters, Sharon Nickels and Joleen Mutch; and three brothers, Elmer, Vernon, and Lyle Schulz.
