John Walter Affolter, age 70 of Mankato, died Monday, August 11, 2014 at Ecumen Pathstone Living in Mankato.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Paul Nolting officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be held from 5 " 8 p.m. Friday at Mankato Mortuary and continue one hour before the service at the church on Saturday.Memorials are preferred to the Lorentz American Legion Post 11 Mankato, Minnesota.


John was born October 1, 1943 in Mankato to Walter and Clara (Schueler) Affolter. John graduated from Mankato High School in 1961. He served his country in the US Army Reserve for many years. John worked at Wis-Pak in North Mankato as a quality control inspector, retiring in 2006.

John was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato. John was very active in Veteran organizations in his life. He was the Jr. Past Commander and past Commander in 2013 " 2014 with Detachment of Minnesota Sons of American Legion, and past Commander of the Lorentz Post 11 of the American Legion Mankato in 1998, and a member of the Forty and Eight.

He enjoyed singing karaoke, playing cards, and bowling.

John is survived by two brothers, Donald (Sharon) Affolter of Eden Prairie, MN, Ronald Affolter of Mankato; nephew, Ryan Affolter of Minnetonka, MN; niece, Laura (Ryan) Johnson of Newtown, PA; great-nephews, Benjamin, Evan, and Nolan Johnson.

Preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Constance Affolter.
