Arline E. Phillips, age 98, of Mankato, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 in Mankato.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul Nolting officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at the church on Monday. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Arline was born on February 22, 1916 to Frank B. and Ida (Oehler) Menton in Mankato. Arline attended a one room country school for the first eight years and then she graduated from Mankato High School in 1934. Arline was employed by Mankato Immanuel Hospital until October 1935. On October 1, 1935, Arline was united in marriage to Henry J. Phillips in St. Clair. They farmed for many years until retiring. Arline was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing the concertina and drums with the Menton Family band. She also enjoyed flower gardening, crocheting, fishing, dancing, and traveling.
Arline is survived by her daughter, Judy (Harlan) Witt; daughter-in-law, Sandi Phillips; six grandchildren, Brenda (Tim) Phillips, Debra (Jeff) Schweim, Todd Phillips, Cindi (Darrin) Groskreutz, Nancy (Fritz) Schneider, and Curtis (Elizabeth) Witt; eight great-grandchildren, Joshua (Jackie) Schweim, Benjamin (Jolene) Schweim, Alyscia Schneider, Eric Schneider, Dustin Groskreutz, Logan Groskreutz, Ethan Witt, and Colin Witt; one great-great grandson, Conner Schweim; sisters-in-law, Genevieve Lynch and Beverly Menton; brother-in-law, Lester Phillips; and many nieces and nephews. Arline was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1998; son, Norman Phillips in 2002; granddaughter, Joyce Witt; three sisters, Ethel O'Connor, Vera Phillips, and Eva Pestka; and three brothers, Stanley, Glenn, and Wayne Menton.
