Leona Bishop Latourelle, age 88, passed away on August 6, 2014 in Mankato surrounded by her family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 11, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. A visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Mankato Mortuary, 1001 N Riverfront Dr., and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be at a later time at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Minnesota Lake, MN.
Leona was born on December 11, 1925 in Wells, MN to George C. and Anna Stenzel. Leona was united in marriage to Claude Bishop at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Minnesota Lake, MN. Claude passed away on May 28, 1968. Before his death, Leona and Claude owned and operated Bishops' Caf" in St. Peter. Leona also worked for many years as a caregiver; working at Grandview, St. Peter, Oaklawn Health Care Center, Mankato, as well as many private residences. She created many special relationships throughout her years as a caregiver. She was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and was a member of the choir. She participated in the Senior Center choir and also volunteered at MRCI and Vine. She was a loving mother and grandmother, had a strong work ethic, and enjoyed spending times outdoors, especially gardening. She will always be remembered as a wonderful seamstress and a great cook.
Leona is survived by her children, Judy (Bob) Bierstedt, Ron (Linda) Bishop, Dale (Mary) Bishop, Bobby Bishop, and Cheri Larson; grandchildren, Mark (Marcie) Bierstedt, Claudia (Jon) Eldridge, Jeremy Bishop, Tracy Bishop, Chad Bishop, Michael Bishop, and Noah Larson; 7 great-grandchildren; sister, Magdalen Spriggs; sister-in-law, Florence Stenzel; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Leona is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Claude; daughter, Linda Sue Bishop; and siblings, Henry Stenzel and Mildred Habeck.
