Albert "Al" Roth Jr. M.D. died Friday March 21, 2014 at his home in Laramie, Wyoming.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the First Baptist Church, Lake Crystal. A time of fellowship and visitation will follow the service. Family burial will be in Lake Crystal Cemetery. Lake Crystal Mortuary is assisting with local arrangements.

Al was born July 23, 1934 in Mankato, MN to Albert H. Roth and Amy V. (Peterson) Roth. He grew up on a farm on the shores of Crystal Lake in Lake Crystal, MN. Al married Eleanor Carlson June 24, 1961. Despite contracting Polio, he graduated with a degree in Medicine from the University of Minnesota in 1962. Al chose to go into family practice and after his internship he co-partnered in Deer River, MN and worked there for 20 years. In 1983, he moved with his family to Laramie, WY and finished his career in 2000 as Director of the Student Health Service at the University of Wyoming. During his career at UW he worked with the athletic teams which he enjoyed. He was an avid fan of UW athletics and attended games when possible.

Al's true passions were fishing, hunting, gardening, and enjoying the outdoors which he shared with his children and grandchildren. One of his favorite places was their cabin in Sioux Narrows, Ont. which they enjoyed for 42 years sharing the beauty with many friends and family. Al spent the majority of his time either on the boat or fileting thousands of fish at the dining room table. When in Laramie, Al could be found hunting and fishing in the mountains and plains lakes that surround Laramie.

Al is survived by his wife, Eleanor; four children, David and Steffanie Roth, Lyons, CO; Daniel and Michelle Roth, Negaunee, MI; Nancy and Dan Olson, Laramie, WY; and James and Lorie Roth, Forest Lake, MN; Al enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchild: Mikayla, Adam, and Jordan Roth of Lyons. Courtney Roth and fianc" Greg Schjenken and their son Eli of Deer River, MN; Katie Roth and fianc" Andrew Taseris, and Alex Roth of Negaunee; Lonnie and Amy Olson of Laramie, WY; and Noah and Duncan Roth of Forest Lake, MN; and very special friends from Sioux Narrows Larry and Carol Fadden and their children Maureen, Adam, and Kennedy Shemrock, Connie, Albert, Madison, and Harley Sawatzky, and Chris Fadden and Chloe Lynn and Haley Fadden. He is also survived by his brother John Roth, and sisters Alberta (Glen) Samuelson, Rozella (Willis) Ward, and Earlene Meier; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Edna Carlson Hughes, Louise Carlson, A. Louis Carlson, Phillip Carlson, Robert (Norma) Carlson, Wesley (Gloria) Carlson and many nephews and nieces.

Al was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-laws, Joan Roth, Marcella Smith,and Valleen Carlson; brothers "in-laws, Al Meier, Dewey Jackson, Woodson Hughes, and Victor Carlson.

Memorials can be made in remembrance of Al to: Deer River Community Hospital Foundation, Deer River, MN; Front Range Hippotherapy, Longmont, CO; or to the University of Wyoming Sports Medicine program through the Cowboy Joe Club.
