David Conroy Wiltgen, age 78 of Mankato, died on June 30, 2014 at Oaklawn Health Care Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, July 5, 2014 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary, 1001 N Riverfront Dr., with a Rosary held at 6:30 p.m. The visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

David was born on July 7, 1935 to Francis Conroy Wiltgen and Edith Daufenbach Wiltgen. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1954 and continued his education at MSU where he received his Masters. David later joined the military and served in the Korean War as a cryptanalyst. David enjoyed teaching young people and taught for many years in Maynard, MN, Le Center, MN, and School District 77 of Mankato. He was an active member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church where he served as an altar server and usher. David enjoyed biking, crossword puzzles, watching the Mankato MoonDogs, hockey games at MSU, and shopping for others. Other highlights in David's life were fishing, hunting, and golfing with his good friends. He could be described as a voracious reader, had a phenomenal memory, and was a wonderful uncle to his seven nieces. David was also an assistant coach to the Mankato public school cross country team. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to the Mankato public school for their cross country team.

David is survived by his sister, Frances Hendershott; brother, Thomas Conroy Wiltgen; sister-in-law, Sue Wiltgen; nieces, Teresa (Bill) Blossom, Claire Hendershott, Ann (Dennis Schaefbauer) Hendershott, Katherine (Mario Goncalves) Wiltgen, Suzanne (Kelly Rossum) Wiltgen, and Tiffany (Darrin) Barnes; and great nieces and nephews, Andrew Blossom, Erik Blossom, Olivia Blossom, Sam Schaefbauer, Joe Schaefbauer, Annie Schaefbauer, Annemarie Goncalves, Linnea Goncalves, Nicolina Rossum, and Vincent Villareal (Wiltgen); and other family and friends.

David is preceded in death by his parents, Francis Conroy Wiltgen and Edith Daufenbach Wiltgen; brother, Martin Wiltgen; brother-in-law, Wayne Hendershott; and niece, Jean Hendershott.
