William "Bill" Altnow, age 79, of North Mankato, died on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at his home.
Private services will be held for Bill with interment at Calvary Cemetery. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Bill was born July 23, 1934 to Gustav and Helen (Dacey) Altnow in Mankato. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1952 and attended Mankato State University for two years. Bill worked for the Worthington Daily Globe as a photographer and then worked for The Free Press in Mankato for 35 years as a news photographer.
He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the National Guard, and the Lions Club. Bill's favorite activities included bird watching, attending sporting events, and spot news assignments. He said, "What more fun could I have in my old age than watching TV, surfing the net, and listening to short wave radio." Bill enjoyed keeping up with old friends as well and was interested in what was going on in the community and world. He said many times he was always looking forward to the next good meal.
Bill is survived by cousins, Al (Stella) Altnow of Alexandria, Mary Bisson of Bloomington, Joe Dacey, Neil Dacey, John (Mary Ann) Dacey all of Green Isle, Dr. Robert (Susan) Dutton of Monterey, CA, and Dr. John (Elizabeth) Dutton of Boalsburg, PA; as well as many second cousins and friends.
