Karen Jean Ostermann, age 69, of Good Thunder, was called to heaven on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapidan with Rev. Sue Froelich, officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Monday at Northview " North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Burial will take place at Bernadotte Lutheran Cemetery, Bernadotte, MN.
Karen was born on March 4, 1944 in New Ulm to William and Lily (Palmer) Franke. She was baptized and confirmed at the Bernadotte Lutheran Church in Bernadotte. She graduated from Gaylord High School in 1962. On December 27, 1964 she was united in marriage to Arlen Ostermann. They lived in Good Thunder and Karen was employed at Wells Federal Bank in Mankato for 34 years where she had tremendous energy and enthusiasm for her customers and was always willing to help anyone she met. Her vivacious personality was evident in the many organizations that she was extremely active in which included: the Cavaliers, the ISJ Hospital Auxiliary Board, being a school board member for Maple River Schools, Relay for Life, and the MSU Women's Walk. She spent much of her time supporting and cheering for her sons and grandkids athletic endeavors and school activities. Karen had a passion for music and also enjoyed playing cards, knitting, playing piano, socializing, shopping, and spending time at the lake.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 49 years, Arlen; sons: Brian (Julie) and his children, Robert, Johnathon, Aloera and Emily, Scott (Kari) and his children, Ryan (Megan), Josie and Jacob, Kevin and his daughter, Katia, and Chad (Joy); mother, Lily Franke; siblings: Marilyn (Wayne) Zarnott, Daryl Franke, and Randy (Leslie) Franke; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, William.
