Delmar Clark Preston was born March 1, 1926 to Clark and Lillie (Frey) Preston in Medo Township, Blue Earth County, MN. After high school, he honorably served his country with the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1946. After basic training, he boarded a ship and was stationed on the USS, ABD3 in Guam. He was a machinist and worked to repair ships damaged in combat. After serving in the Navy he returned home to help his father with the livestock and crops on the family farm; which he eventually took over. Delmar was united in marriage to Norma Jean Potz at First Presbyterian Church in Mankato in 1949. Together, they raised their four children and taught them value of hard work. Delmar enjoyed woodworking, helping his children with projects around their homes and building beautiful cabinetry. He was an active member and trustee of Zion United Methodist Church in St. Clair until its closing. Delmar was a Past Commander and long-time member of the St. Clair American Legion Post #475. He also devoted time to the Medo-McPherson Cemetery Association, and served as sexton for many years.
